Innovations in Compression Tooling & Tablet Press Systems

Robert Sedlock, Director of Natoli Scientific

Abstract: In the past decade improvements have been made in the tablet compression industry. Compression tool designs are a critical aspect to the tableting process and this presentation will cover the impact of tablet quality with different cup configurations and specifications while utilizing USP<1062> Tablet Characterization Methods.

The tablet press system has also evolved over time and an explanation of the critical stages of the tablet press will be provided in this presentation. This includes proper die filling designs, uniform compression loading and how to properly scale from R&D to Manufacturing scale tableting. Case studies of USP<1062> compaction profiling of different drug loads for direct compression, roller compaction and wet granulation will also be presented.
